Product Junkie, No more!

With all of the products out there, as a girl with natural hair, it doesn't take much to turn into a "product junkie". I decided that I am going to simplify my routine and lessen the amount of products I use. There are so many awesome natural hair product lines, but that doesn't mean I have to try all of them. I just need to find something that works consistently and stick with it.

At the moment, these are my staple products: Terressentials mud wash, coconut oil, and my shae moisture conditioner that I use as a leave-in.

All I need to do is keep my hair clean and moisturized and I'm all set. I spend less money and go through less hassle. Natural hair shouldn't be more complicated to maintain than relaxed hair. It may require more time and patience, but that's just because of the gentle care that curly hair requires.

Honey and Oil Treatment Results

This is by far the most moistuizing deep treatment I've ever tried. Rinsing the treatment out was easy and left my hair feeling soft, restored, and not too oily. I washed my hair with the mud wash (that is seriously my new staple product. The best part is that I didn't have to oil my hair afterwards and detangling was a breeze. I am definitely going to fit this one in my routine once a week at least.

Honey and Oil Deep Treatment

I'm always up for a relaxing deep treatment. It's a great way to rejuvenate my hair, restore moisture lost in this awful dry weather, and maintain it's overall health. Today, I was thinking honey!
If you're interested in giving this one a try, don't stop reading :D
You'll need 100% organic honey, a couple of your favorite organic oils, and conditioner.
Mix it all up and apply it to your hair. I applied the mixture in medium sized sections of hair so that I could twist it and keep it out of the way as I applied the treatment.
Then, wrap your hair in a shower cap or plastic bag.
Lastly, wrap your head with a towel to retain the heat that you naturally have in your head :P
(I used a regular towel instead of my heat therapy wrap because I have a lot of time on my hands, but if I only had an hour or less, I would use the heat therapy wrap to speed up the process).
At this point, you can either rinse it out or leave it overnight. I'm gonna leave it overnight to really let it set in.
Stay posted to see the results!

Sage Naturalceuticals

Finally after my friend Dawn insisted, I visited Sage Naturalceuticals. All I have to say is that she couldn't have been more right. This store is amazing! They have all organic products for people with curly/kinky hair as well as skin products. They have really popular brands as well as brands that I've never heard of. It's a tiny little shop, but it looks great inside and everything is organized really well. The sales associate was also extremely knowledgeable about the products and where they were located which is always appreciated.

I purchased the Terressentials Mud Wash, (Look out for my next post which will be a review on that product)

Sage Naturalceuticals is located in the Castleberry Hill neighborhood in Atlanta.

238 Walker st. Ste.8
Atlanta, Ga 30313

Check it out! It will change your life! ok, that's a huge exaggeration, but it's awesome. Go!

Braid Out

Normally I love twist outs, however the longer my hair gets, the more difficult it is to keep a decently defined curl. So after I did my deep treatment, I applied my shae moisture conditioner as a leave-in and my shae moisture flax seed oil gel to control the frizz.  I braided my hair and wore it over night. When I unraveled my hair, I was left with big hair and defined curls. I didn't even have to re-moisturize which is pretty crazy because I slept without my scarf. I think braid outs may be my new thing. The moisture content I have to credit to the deep treatment, but the braids deserve the credit for the way my curls turned out.

United Member Ben

How long have you had an afro?

I've had an Afro for roughly 4 years now. The last time I entered a barbershop was my freshman year of high school.

How often do people suggest you should cut it?

Well, when my Afro was smaller it didn't get much respect, so just about everyday people criticized me and asked questions. However, no that it is "legit" I don't really get a lot of that. Actually people love it!

What is your daily hair routine?

I try to wash my hair every other day. While that May seem like a lot my hair is quite thick and I can only comb through it while its wet. Other than that I just pick it out and put some moisturizer on it.

What are some of your favorite products?

I can't give a straight answer. I'm currently experimenting with a lot of products between Pantene, tressemé, Mizzani, and Pink
